Softball Rallies for Comeback Sweep Against CSI

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The softball team combined for 27 hits in a doubleheader sweep against the College of Staten Island. The Lions scored 15 unanswered runs, including a 10-run sixth inning, to complete a comeback win in game one, 16-8. They then secured a 2-1 victory in game two. The cardinal and white improve to 8-14 on the season, with a 3-1 record in conference play, while the Dolphins fall to 10-12, 0-4 in ECC play.
 
Game One: Molloy 16, CSI 8 (6 Innings)
How it Happened
  • The Dolphins took an early lead after Olivia Wanser launched a three-run home run to left center in the top of the first inning.
  • In the bottom half, seniors Natalie Moussa and Cheralyn Dusharme started strong with back-to-back singles up the middle.
  • Sophomore Stevie Dabbadie followed with an RBI single to right field, putting the home team on the board.
  • CSI extended its lead to 8-1 in the second inning, capitalizing on a pair of two-run doubles and a single to center field.
  • The Lions responded in the third, with singles from Moussa and Dabbadie setting up freshman Madeline Millman for an RBI single to center field.
  • A fielding error and a stolen base put redshirt freshman Alexis Montgomery in scoring position, allowing junior Mae Savage to drive her in with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 8-3.
  • The momentum continued as back-to-back doubles from Dusharme and Dabbadie brought in another run.
  • Freshman Megan Wegel followed with a single through the left side. 
  • Sophomore Amaya Page followed with a triple, scoring Wegel before Montgomery's RBI single drove in Molloy's sixth run, cutting the deficit to two.
  • The Lions erupted for 10 runs on seven hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. McGurk advanced to third on two defensive errors before scoring on Savage's RBI single up the middle. More defensive misplays loaded the bases, leading to a two-run single from Dabbadie.
  • Millman's RBI single extended Molloy's lead to 10-8.
  • Page then doubled to center field, driving in two more runs, and Montgomery's infield single reloaded the bases.
  • McGurk and Dusharme capped off the rally with two two-run singles, securing a 16-8 victory via the run rule.
Top Performances
  • Dabbadie led the offense, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and four RBIs.
  • Dusharme and Page each recorded three hits, including a double, and combined for five RBIs.
  • Savage, Moussa, and Millman each contributed two hits, with Savage and Millman driving in two runs apiece.
  • McGurk added two RBIs and Wegel contributed a hit.
  • Dabbadie pitched five innings in relief, striking out four batters in a win.
 
Game Two: Molloy 2, CSI 1
How it Happened
  • CSI threatened early in the first inning after a fielding error and a double, but a strong play involving Wegel in left and freshman Casey Kissinger at shortstop to throw out a runner at home and keep a run off the board. Dabbadie then struck out the next batter looking to end the inning.
  • McGurk led off the bottom of the first with a single up the middle, and Savage advanced her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.
  • Dusharme followed with an RBI single to center field, giving the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
  • CSI responded in the second inning when Anissa Acosta's RBI single tied the game at one.
  • The Lions' defense held strong, retiring three straight batters in the third to keep the score tied.
  • In the fourth, McGurk reached scoring position after taking advantage of a fielding error and a wild pitch.
  • Moussa then delivered an RBI single to center field, putting Molloy ahead 2-1.
  • The Lions recorded another quick inning in the top of the fifth, forcing two ground outs before Dabbadie struck out Wanser swinging.
  • CSI loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth, threatening to tie the game, but a crucial catch by center-fielder Montgomery ended the inning and preserved the lead.
  • The Dolphins had another chance in the seventh with a runner in scoring position and just one out, but Savage made two key defensive plays at second base to secure the 2-1 victory for Molloy.

  • Dusharme went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, while Moussa added a hit and an RBI.
  • Dabbadie pitched her third complete game of the season, adding another four strikeouts.
