Women's Lacrosse Tops Holy Family, 18-6

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team picked up an 18-6 victory over the Tigers of Holy Family University this afternoon from the Rockville Centre Sports Complex. The win sets Molloy at 2-8 on the season while Holy Family falls to 1-7.

How it Happened
  • The Molloy offense exploded for seven goals in the opening 15 minutes of play, including three from senior Megan Rugolo.
  • Seniors Brenna Signorelli, Sofia Quitoni, and Alessandra Borsellino as well as freshman Emma Ryan all found the back of the net in the first quarter.
  • Taina Harkins would score twice for the Tigers to cut the deficit to five, 7-2, after 16 minutes of play.
  • Ryan, Signorelli, and Rugolo each added to their goal totals in the second quarter as well as one from freshman Ava Benasutti to make it an 11-3 contest at the half.
  • Amorison and Quitoni would score within one minute of one another early in the third quarter to prompt running time with a 10 goal differential.
  • Rianna Shields forced the clock to stop with a goal for the visitors, but Amorison and Benasutti each scored in the final six minutes of the quarter to make it 15-4 headed into the final 15 minutes.
  • Sophomore Brooke Grossjung would score twice in the fourth paired with a goal from senior Carly Howell to round out Molloy's scoring.
Top Performances
  • Rugolo topped the Lions with five points on four goals and one assist while also picking up three ground balls and a career-high 11 draws.
  • Signorelli and Amorison each tallied two goals and two assists for four points with Signorelli adding three ground balls and a caused turnover.
  • Borsellino (one goal, two assists) and Benasutti (two goals, one assist) had two points with two caused turnovers from the senior.
  • Grossjung had a career-high two goals to go with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Quitoni and Ryan both scored twice while Howell added one.
  • Howell's four ground balls and five caused turnovers paced the Lions.
  • Sophomore Nicole Schaumloffel made four saves in net.
