Softball Drops a Pair to Adelphi

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The softball team continued its eight-game home stand with a doubleheader against the local Adelphi Panthers, falling 6-2 and 4-3. Molloy ends the evening with a record of 6-14 while Adelphi is now an even 11-11.

Game One: Adelphi 6, Molloy 2
  • The Lions were the first on the board, plating two runs in the first inning.
  • Junior Emily McGurk drew a lead-off walk before stealing second and scoring on a double from senior Natalie Moussa.
  • Senior Cheralyn Dusharme traded places with the pitcher with a shot up the middle to make it 2-0.
  • A lead-off double from Reeghan McCarthy set the table for a game-tying home run for Maddy Moore in the top of the second.
  • A home run from Brianna Pearson and bases loaded walk to Moore made it a 5-2 ball game in the third.
  • The Lions had runners in scoring position in both the second and third inning before loading the bases in the fourth, but were unable to plate a run. 
  • McCarthy rounded out the scoring with a double in the top of the seventh.
Top Performances
  • Moussa, Dusharme, and sophomores Mariah Cepeda and Amaya Page accounted for Molloy's four hits.
  • Moussan and Dusharme each added an RBI.
  • McGurk tallied a stolen base.
  • Moussa threw a complete game in the circle, allowing just four earned runs while striking out a season-high six strikeouts.
Game Two: Adelphi 4, Molloy 3
  • The Panthers were first to strike in game two. Angelina Kellogg walked to start the contest before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a passed ball. 
  • The short stop scored on an infield single from Pearson to get the visitors on the board.
  • Molloy would respond in the bottom of the third as sophomore Stevie Dabbadie led off the inning with a double to right center. 
  • A single through the left s ide from Cepeda put runners on the corners before freshman Hannah Definis singled to load the bases.
  • Junior Mae Savage drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Lions on the board before Page drove in two more with a single up the middle.
  • Strong defensive plays kept Molloy ahead, allowing just one more hit to the Panthers through the sixth inning. 
  • The visitors cracked it open in the top of the seventh, however, scoring on an infield single and two-run double to take a 4-3 lead.
  • Dusharme would single to right field in the bottom of the seventh, representing the tying run. Dabbadie came to the plate and sent the ball nearly over the left field fence for the walk-off win, but Angeline Montanez made the catch while crashing into the fence to seal win the game for Adelphi.
Top Performances
  • McGurk (2-for-4) and Cepeda (2-for-2) each had two hits.
  • Moussa, Dusharme, Dabbadie, Definis, and Page all had one with Page matching a career-high two RBI.
  • McGurk and freshman Casey Kissinger each stole a base.
  • Dabbadie also pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs while matching a career-high five strikeouts.

Molloy will return to Bob Klein Field on Thursday (Mar. 27) to host the College of Staten Island at 3:30 p.m.
