Staten Island, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team completed its four game series with the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island Sunday afternoon picking up a 16-4 victory to clinch the series victory. With the triumph, the Lions move to 12-8 overall and 3-1 in East Coast Conference play while the Dolphins move to 6-19 overall and 1-3 in league play.
How it Happened
- Molloy jumped out hot, putting together a four-run top of the first. Senior Nicholas Dagnello got the Lions on the board with a 2-RBI double, senior Patrick Sanchez singled home a run and came around to score later in the inning following an error to cap the inning.
- The contest would remain 4-0 until the bottom fifth when Staten Island put together two runs to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
- In the top of the sixth, the cardinal and white exploded for five additional runs. The rally began with sophomore Thomas Walker doubling home junior Jack Coogan, junior Sean Welsh knocked in the next run with a sacrifice fly to score Walker, junior Sean Serrano joined the fun with a run scoring single and came around to score later in the frame following an error, and Dagnello singled home graduate student Aidan Larkin to finish off the inning with the Lions ahead, 9-2.
- After the Dolphins scored a run in the bottom of the frame, junior Jeremy Taggart got the run back in the top of the seventh with a single that plated senior Thomas Lebrecht keeping them ahead by seven, 10-3.
- The home team would have a run cross the plate in the bottom of the eighth to come within six, 10-4.
- The cardinal and white closed out the contest with a six run top of the ninth with Serrano, Welsh, sophomore Brian Sanchez, and redshirt senior Matthew Gonchar picking up an RBI each to clinch the victory, 16-4.

- On the mound, graduate student Ryan Hynes picked up his first win of the season pitching six innings allowing three runs and five hits while striking out eight.
- Freshman Jayden Patel tossed two innings of relief allowing no earned runs and punching out two.
- Senior Jason Schwartz made his season debut pitching a perfect ninth inning.
