Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short at SCSU

New Haven, Conn. - A four-goal run in the final quarter was not enough for the women's lacrosse team this afternoon at Jess Dow Field as the Lions fell to Southern Connecticut State University, 12-11. The Owls moved to 2-0 on the campaign with the win while Molloy fell to 0-5.

How it Happened
  • The home team opened up the contest with five-straight goals in the first seven minutes.
  • Senior Megan Rugolo would cut the deficit to three with back-to-back goals to end the first frame.
  • Senior Brenna Signorelli would make it 5-3 five minutes into the second quarter, but the Owls scored less than 60 seconds later.
  • A free position marker from senior Alexa Amorison paired with a third goal from Rugolo clawed the Lions back within one, 6-5, but the home team added one final goal in the last 40 seconds of the first half to take a 7-5 lead into the break.
  • Signorelli matched a career-high three goals after scoring twice to open the third quarter and bring the game to a tie.
  • The Owls took control and scored the next five-straight goals to take a 12-7 advantage headed into the final eight minutes of the contest.
  • A penalty to SCSU opened the door for back-to-back man-up goals for freshman Emma Ryan to make it 12-9.
  • Rugolo was sent to free position twice in the final five minutes, scoring on both opportunities to once again bring the Lions within one 12-11 with 90 seconds to play.
  • Rugolo won the final draw of the game, but Molloy was unable to get a shot off to tie the game before time expired.
