Timely Hitting Leads Baseball Past Franklin Pierce

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team defeated the Ravens of Franklin Pierce, 7-2, Sunday afternoon at Mitchel Field. The Lions improve to 9-6 on the campaign while the Ravens move to 7-12.

How it Happened
  • The Lions struck first in the bottom of the opening frame when junior Sean Serrano singled to score junior Sean Welsh.

  • The contest would remain in favor of the Lions through the top of the seventh inning, when Franklin Pierce was able to crack the scoreboard. Ravens third basemen Anthony Marcano doubled down the left field line to score a pair of runners to knot the game at two.
  • The cardinal and white responded with a four-run bottom of the seventh to take control of the contest. The rally started with junior Patrick Sanchez scoring following a passed ball.
  • Coming off the bench as a pinch hitter, sophomore James Sill drove in a pair of runs with a single to center field and graduate student Stephen Collica capped the inning with a double into left field that scored pinch runner sophomore Joe Burriesci to retake the lead, 6-2.
  • The Lions tacked on an insurance in the eighth after Burriesci recorded a sacrifice fly and the home team would go on to clinch the victory, 7-2.
