Baseball Battles No. 7/10 West Chester

Uniondale, N.Y. – The Molloy baseball team gave everything it had Tuesday afternoon, but would fall to the Rams of West Chester, 4-3, inside Serpico Stadium. The Lions move to 9-7 on the season, while the Rams improve to 15-3.

How it Happened
  • The opening three innings was a pitching duel between graduate student Matthew Fried and West Chester starter Ryan DeHaven.
  • The contest saw three hits in the first three frames all coming from the Lions. The road team was able to get a man to second in all three innings but were held off the scoreboard.
  • In the top of the fourth, sophomore Charlie Imhof doubled and later advanced to third base, but the designated hitter would be stranded there as the Rams were able to escape another jam.
  • West Chester cracked the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth with a run scoring following a ground out.
  • The home team added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth following an RBI double to increase its lead, 2-0.
  • The cardinal and white were able to scratch across a run in the sixth when graduate student Aidan Larkin scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.
  • The Rams got the run right back in the bottom of the frame off another RBI double to retake its two-run advantage, 3-1.
  • In the top of the ninth Molloy began the inning with a pair of strikeouts as it looked as if they would go down in order, but the gritty Lions would not let it end like that.
  • Imhof drew a four-pitch walk that set up junior Jack Coogan who found the right center gap with a double to score Imhof bringing Molloy back within one, 3-2.
  • Next up was junior Sean Serrano who followed with a single into right center that brought in pinch runner senior Thomas Lebrecht to bring the contest back to all square, 3-3.
  • Serrano was able to get to third following a failed pick off putting the go ahead run 90-feet away, but West Chester shut down the opportunity keeping the score tied going into the bottom of the ninth.
  • In the final frame, the Rams were able to put a pair of runners on and drive the winning run in off its third run scoring double of the afternoon to secure the victory, 4-3.
