Colonia, N.J. - The East Coast Conference released its weekly awards this afternoon with three members of the cardinal and white earning the distinction of Player of the Week. In addition, eight more Lions were tabbed to their respective sports' Weekly Honor Roll.
Leading the way was a near sweep of the weekly awards for the baseball team, with junior
Sean Welsh and sophomore
James Sill being named the Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
In a career week, Welsh hit .550 (11-for-20), drove in seven runs, scored six times, stole six bases, hit two home runs, and slugged at .850 while collecting his first save of the season. In Molloy's win over Caldwell on Tuesday (Mar. 4), the junior totaled three hits, three stolen bases, and two runs scored while also earning the save. Against Bentley on Friday (Mar. 7), the third baseman hit a two-run homer and added a stolen base. The junior continued to stay hot against Lynn on Saturday (Mar. 8) with four hits, including a homer, three RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Ending the week against New Haven (Mar. 9), Welsh added another three hits and drove in two runs. Sill earned Pitcher of the Week as he allowed just four hits through seven innings against New Haven, allowing no earned runs while striking out six in a no-decision.
In addition, graduate student
Aidan Larkin was named to the league's Weekly Honor Roll. Larkin collected three hits and two RBI in the win over Caldwell before totaling five hits in six at bats with an RBI against Bentley. At Lynn, the second baseman added two more hits while driving in a run. On the week. the graduate student hit .579 (11-for-19) out of the three spot in the line up, driving in four runs to go with two walks and two stolen bases and extended his hitting streak to eight games.
Senior
Natalie Moussa earned the final award this week for the Lions, being named Pitcher of the Week. In a doubleheader sweep of New Haven on Saturday (Mar. 8), she tossed 2.2 innings in relief in the first game, striking out one while providing a key momentum shift to help Molloy come out on top. The senior got the start in game two and earned her first career shutout with a complete game effort. The pitcher sat down four and allowed just five hits in the victory.
Offensively, her performance also earned her a mention on the Weekly Honor Roll, totaling four hits and four RBI in the doubleheader sweep. She was joined on the Weekly Honor Roll by redshirt freshman
Alexis Montgomery, who went 4-for-4 in the first game against the Chargers with a double and four RBI.
The men's lacrosse team had four selected to the Weekly Honor Roll following a 27-6 victory over Caldwell on the week. Senior
Luke Hickam tallied a career-high 10 points on four goals and six assists, featuring two EMO goals. Junior
Jake Taylor was a large contributor in the win as well, putting up a career-high eight points on six goals and two assists. The Lions were also strong on face-offs, earning both junior
Brandon Pazienza and freshman
Zachary Maligres spots on the Honor Roll. Pazienza went a perfect 12-for-12 at the dot, the specialist's second flawless performance of the season, while picking up three ground balls. Maligres also won double digit face-offs, going 10-for-13 and had a career-high six ground balls to go with his first collegiate point, an assist.
Senior
Megan Rugolo led the Lions to the team's first victory of the season at Wilmington. The attacker totaled five points with four goals and an assist to go with five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls. Freshman
Ava Benasutti had a career-high four points on three goals and one assist in the effort.
