Dagnello Hits For The Cycle, Drives In Seven; No. 22/26 Baseball Sweeps Felician

Uniondale, N.Y. – Senior Nicholas Dagnello was red hot at the plate Saturday afternoon, hittinf for the cycle while totaling seven hits in eight at bats and knocking in seven runners to help the No. 22/26 ranked Molloy baseball team sweep Felician (12-7 and 9-4) Saturday afternoon on Breslin Field. The Lions improve to 5-2 on the campaign, while the Golden Falcons move to 4-6.
 
Game One: Molloy 12, Felician 7
  • Molloy started quickly, using its aggressive base running to plate a run in the top of the first. After junior Sean Welsh stole second, sophomore Joe Burriesci scored following an errant throw to put Molloy on the scoreboard, 1-0.
  • In the second, graduate student Aidan Larkin added to the lead, 2-0, following an RBI single.
  • The cardinal and white tacked on a run in the third and the fourth following solo home runs from sophomore James Sill and Welsh to open a four-run lead, 4-0.
  • Felician got right back into the game in the bottom of the fourth following a two-run home run to cut the deficit in half, 4-2.
  • After a scoreless fifth inning on both sides, the Golden Falcons exploded for a five-run bottom of the sixth. Collecting three runs off a pair of run scoring triples and two runs crossing the plate via a single to push ahead, 7-4.
  • The gritty Lions battled back in the top of the seventh. Junior Sean Serrano got the offense going with a run scoring single and Larkin brought the Lions within one, 8-7, with an RBI single.
  • In the top of the eighth with the bases loaded and two outs, sophomore Charlie Imhof was called off the bench to pinch-hit in a big spot. The sophomore delivered, driving a two-RBI single into left field to reclaim the lead for the Lions, 8-7.
  • The cardinal and white broke the game open in the top of the ninth, totaling four runs. Sill began the rally driving a double down the left field line that plated a pair, Serrano brought a run home following a hit by pitch, and sophomore Brian Sanchez capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to put the Lions ahead, 12-7, where they would go on and close the victory out in the bottom of the frame.
  • Freshman Dylan Schriver picked up his first collegiate victory on the mound. In 3.1 innings of relief, the right-hander did not surrender a run,  allowed just one hit and struck out four to pick up the win.
  • Larkin totaled three hits, two RBI, and one run scored.
  • Sill tallied his first home run as a lion, on top of three hits, three RBI, and three runs scored.
  • Dagnello added three hits, four runs scored, and two walks.
  • Serrano and Imhof collected a hit and two-RBI apiece.
Game Two: Molloy 9, Felician 4
  • Felician totaled two runs in the bottom of the first to kick off game two, with both runners crossing the plate following an error.
  • Dagnello cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the top of the second connecting on his first home run of the campaign.
  • Molloy continued to plate runners in the top of the third. Welsh singled home a run, Dagenllo knocked in a run with a single, and senior Thomas Lebrecht capped the inning with a RBI double to push the Lions in front, 4-2.
  • In the top of the fourth, it would be Dagenllo who came to the plate with the basses loaded looking to open the flood gates. The senior would deliver a bases clearing triple to open a 7-2 advantage for Molloy.
  • In the bottom of the frame, Felician fired right back plating two runs with a double to come within three, 7-4.
  • In the top of the sixth, Dagnello finished off his incredible day with a two-run double to complete the cycle and put Molloy ahead, 9-4, where they would stay for good and complete the victory.
  • Dagnello hit for the cycle while driving in seven runs.
  • On the mound Sill moved to 2-0 on the season, tossing six innings allowing just two hits, four runs, one earned, and striking out six.
  • Welsh and Lebrecht drove in a run each.
Up Next
The Lions return home Tuesday, March 4 to host Caldwell at Mitchel Field. First-pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
