Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's basketball team was downed by the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University this afternoon from Bob Houlihan Court, 92-75. The win set Roberts at 9-13 on the season and 6-6 in East Coast Conference play while Molloy fell to 8-13 (4-6 ECC).
How it Happened
- The visitors got out to an early lead, 12-4 in the opening three minutes.Â
- Molloy responded out of a time out with five points to cut the deficit to three, 12-9.
- It remained a two-possession game until an 8-0 run from RWU put the Redhawks ahead, 27-16 with 8:36 left in the first half.
- The Lions would come within eight, 29-21, but went into the locker room trailing 48-35 at halftime.
- Trailing by 13, a 14-2 run made it a one-point game with 14:36 to play. The run featured 10 points from senior Terence Crowley.
- Roberts Wesleyan scored 16 of the next 19 points to regain the double digit lead, 70-57 with 10 minutes to play.
- A three-pointer from sophomore Bryce Merchant broke up the run, but RWU followed with 12 of the next 15 to break open the contest headed into the final three minutes before earning the victory.
Top Performances
- Sophomore Rob Matos led the game with 26 points and five assists while adding four rebounds.
- Merchant netted 22 points, shooting 10-of-16 from the field, to go with five rebounds.
- Graduate student Matt Lane pulled down 19 rebounds while adding six points, two blocks, and a steal.
- Senior Mick Browne also put up two blocks while adding three assists and two steals.
- Crowley rounded out the top scorers with 10 points.
