Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The No. 22/29 Molloy baseball team opened the 2025 campaign with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Bridgeport (9-2 and 8-0) Friday afternoon on Griffith Field at the Ripken Experience. Game One: Molloy 9, Bridgeport 2
- After a scoreless first inning, sophomore James Sill put the Lions on the board with an RBI groundout in the second.
- The Lions tacked on its second run to go in front, 2-0, following a run scoring groundout from graduate student Stephen Collica in the fourth frame.
- Molloy put together a three-run fifth inning on the back of an RBI single from Sill and a two-run single from junior Jack Coogan to add to its lead, 5-0.
- The Purple Knights cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth after Vin Mallon hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to three, 5-2.
- In the top of the seventh, the Lions saw two runs cross the plate following a throwing error to extend it lead, 7-2.
- Senior Patrick Sanchez topped off the scoring with a two-RBI double in the top of the eighth as the Lions would go on to win the contest, 9-2.
- Senior JC Kiss picked up the victory tossing six innings allowing two runs, on four hits while striking out four.
- Coogan, Sanchez, and Sill drove in two runs each.
- Junior Sean Welsh swiped three bases and scored three runs.
- Freshman Dylan Schriver made his collegiate debut pitching three innings and struck out four to collect his first career save.
Game Two: Molloy 8, Bridgeport 0
- The cardinal and white wasted no time in game two. Graduate student Aidan Larkin got the Lions on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the first.
- In the bottom of the second with two runners on, junior Sean Serrano turned on a pitch and blasted it over the right field fence to extend the Lions lead, 4-0.
- Through the third and fourth inning, redshirt sophomore Mike Knapp sat down six straight Purple Knights via the strikeout as the right-hander had complete control on the mound.
- The fifth inning saw Welsh show off his power and speed, as the junior drove in a run with an RBI triple and scored following a wild pitch to open the lead to 6-0.
- In the sixth, sophomore Joe Burriesci drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Sanchez scored Serrano with an RBI to polish off the victory, 8-0.
- Knapp was dominant on the hill, throwing six innings while scattering two hits and striking out a career-high 11 in his first collegiate start.
- Serrano belted his first home run of the season while totaling three RBI and scoring two runs.
- Larkin totaled two hits, stole two bases, and drove in a run.
- Welsh added two stolen bases, two walks, and an RBI.
- Junior Jeremy Taggart totaled two hits and two runs scored in his Molloy debut.
