Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Down by three with nine minutes left in the game, the women's lacrosse team rallied for three-straight goals to knot the score tonight against Jefferson. Unfortunately, the effort would not be enough as the Rams scored twice in the final three minutes to take a 13-11 victory from the RVC Sports Complex. The loss sets the Lions at 0-3 to start the season while Jefferson was victorious in the season-opener.
How it Happened
- Molloy was quick to get on the board as senior Megan Rugolo scored in the opening three minutes of the contest.
- Jefferson would respond just two minutes later with a goal from Reagan Rogers, kicking off a four-goal run for the visitors.
- A free position goal from senior Brenna Signorelli followed by a goal from senior Alexa Amorison brought the Lions back within one, 4-3, headed into the final minute of the opening quarter.
- Taylor Hood regained the lead for Jefferson momentarily, but freshman Emma Ryan netted her first of the game to close the quarter with Molloy trailing, 5-4.
- The Lions went right to work to start the second quarter, with Rugolo and senior Sofia Quitoni both scoring in the opening three minutes. Ryan scored her second of the contest, a man-up goal, to give Molloy a 7-5 lead with 9:55 left in the first half.
- The Rams would score twice in the final five minutes to have the teams tied at the half.
- The third quarter was quieter by comparison with the teams combining for just three goals. Gabby Modzelewski opened the half with a goal, but Signorelli's second of the contest quickly tied the game once again, this time 8-8.
- Lily Lutz found the back of the net to break the stalemate before time expired in the third quarter.
- Emma Baker scored back-to-back markers for Jefferson in the second to give the Rams an 11-8 lead with less than 10 minutes to play.
- Quitoni would find the back of the net twice in a 70 second period to bring the Lions back within one before Signorelli tied the game for a fifth time with 5:34 to play.
- Iris Gluck broke the stalemate with 3:15 remaining before a man-up goal from Chloe Naylor sealed Molloy's fate.
