Lakewood, N.J. - Trailing by four in the final 10 minutes of play, the women's lacrosse team rallied for force overtime this afternoon at Georgian Court University, but the effort was not enough as the Lions were downed on a free position tally in the final seconds of the overtime period. Molloy sits at 0-2 to start the season while Georgian Court improved to 2-0.
How it Happened
- The home Lions took an early 2-0 lead, but Molloy closed out the first quarter with four unanswered goals.
- Senior Brenna Signorelli fed a pass to senior Alessandra Borsellino to put the Lions on the board. From there, senior Megan Rugolo scored the next three, one of which came from free position, to end the frame with Molloy in front, 4-2.
- Georgian Court would score the next three goals to start the second quarter, taking a 5-4 lead.
- Freshman Emma Ryan converted on a pass from senior Alexa Amorison to knot the score before Borsellino regained the lead for Molloy on a man-down marker.
- GCU netted a free position goal in the final seconds of the opening half to tie the score at six.
- Molloy was held to just one goal in the third quarter off the stick of senior Sofia Quitoni. Meanwhile, the home Lions scored four times to take an 10-7 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
- GCU netted the first goal of the fourth frame, but from there the period belonged nearly exclusively to the Lions.
- Ryan found the back of the net for the second time, this time on an extra-man opportunity. Rugolo, Signorelli, and sophomore Brooke Grossjung scored in succession to tie the score at 11.
- The home team scored again in the final four minutes before Rugolo found the back of the net to tie the game with 2:37 on the clock.
- GCU won the resulting draw, but Molloy quickly regained control. Rugolo had a shot blocked and another saved in the final 20 seconds, forcing overtime.
- Senior Carly Howell put a shot on net in the extra period, but it was saved by Cadence Gentile. The home Lions earned a free position attempt in the final 15 seconds, scoring to take the contest, 13-12.

- Rugolo led with six points, netting five goals and adding an assist. The attacker also controlled a team-leading six draws to go with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Amorison had three assists to go with three ground balls.
- Signorelli (one goal, one assist), Borsellino (two goals), and Ryan (two goals) each had two points.
- Borsellino had a career-high four ground balls and four draw controls.
- Quitoni led with three caused turnovers to go with three ground balls and a goal.
- Sophomore Nicole Shaumloffel had a career-high five ground balls to go with three saves.
