Amherst, N.Y. – The Molloy men's basketball team fell to the third-ranked Daemen Wildcats, 94-62, Sunday afternoon inside Lumsden Gymnasium. Molloy moves to 0-9 overall and 0-2 in East Coast Conference play, while the Wildcats improve to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.
How it Happened
- Daemen jumped out of the gate quickly, opening the contest on a 17-2 run while forcing five Lions turnovers in the first 4:51.
- The Wildcats maintained its double-digit lead for the majority of the first half, holding a 14-point advantage, 33-19, with under eight minutes to play in the stanza.
- Over the next six minutes of action, Molloy found its footing putting together a 17-5 run shooting a blistering 77 percent from the field to cut the deficit to two, 38-36. The run was paced by the trio of juniors Manu Alford, Bryce Merchant, and Jared Weakly who all netted five points.
- The home team reclaimed its momentum ending the final 2:03 of the stanza on a 7-0 run to take a 45-36 lead into halftime.
- Daemen began the second half red hot, rallying to a 22-3 run while shooting 69 percent from the field to take a commanding, 67-39, lead with 13:11 to play.
- Molloy was unable to overcome the deficit as the Wildcats closed the second half shooting 58 percent from the field en route to the victory.
Top Performances
- Merchant paced the squad posting his third double-double, netting 15 points and securing 10 rebounds.
- Sophomore Dylan Kopp totaled 10 points on four-of-eight shooting from the floor and two-of-three from three-point range.
