Rockville Centre, N.Y. - After a promising start to the game, the women's basketball team fell to the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 79-50, this afternoon from Bob Houlihan Gymnasium. The loss sets the Lions at 1-3 on the season while SCSU improved to 3-1 with the win.
How it Happened
- The Lions came out strong in the first 10 minutes of play, shooting over 56 percent from the field.
- The lead exchanged hands five times in the opening frame. Trailing by eight in the final two minutes, Molloy closed the quarter on a 9-0 run that saw four points from senior Colleen McCullagh and five from senior Sophia Yearwood to lead 22-21.
- Tied at 30 with six minutes to play in the opening half, the Owls responded with an 11-2 run to lead 41-32 at the break.
- Molloy made just four field goals in the second half, shooting under 10 percent from the field in the 20 minute span in the loss.
Top Performances
- McCullagh netted a career-high 22 points in the effort, shooting 7-of-16 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul line to go with a team-leading six rebounds.
- Yearwood followed with 15 points.
- Freshman Sharmeela Ugbogbo tied McCullagh's six rebounds and added two blocks.
- Sophomore Iris Hoffman had two steals.
- Senior Rosa Rizzitelli led with seven assists.
