Bridgeport, Conn. – The Molloy women's soccer team used three goals in the final 20 minutes to help propel them past the Purple Knights of Bridgeport, 3-1, Wednesday evening at Knights Field. The Lions extend their winning streak to five holding a record of 7-2-2, while the Purple Knights move to 2-5-3.
How it Happened
- The first shot on goal came in the 11th minute when sophomore Jana Strait challenged with a shot that was saved by Bridgeport goalkeeper Sky Hernandez.
- Bridgeport wouldn't muster a shot until 20 minutes on the clock, when Luiza Macedo looked to score, but her attempt went wide.
- The 24th minute saw sophomore Sarah Cavllo create space for a shot, but Hernandez would be there to deny the chance.
- The Lions pressure would continue in the 39th minute after sophomore Madison Falkowski looked to get on the board, but once again her shot would be saved.
- The cardinal and white put together a pair of chances in the final 29 seconds of the opening stanza. Freshman Gianna Zawol and senior Mikaela Barriga each found space to fire a shot, but both attempts would be saved sending the contest into halftime, scoreless.
- Still seeking the game's first goal, junior Isabella Muro fired a shot off the right flank in the 49th minute, but Hernandez would see it into her hands.
- The Purple Knights were able to break through in the 51st minute. Following a Molloy turnover in their defensive end, Macedo was able to tuck her shot inside the left post putting Bridgeport ahead, 1-0.
- Over the next 17 minutes of action, the road team put together four excellent scoring chances. Three shots were saved by Hernandez and Barriga had her shot hit the left post, keeping the Lions off the board.
- Molloy was finally able to capitalize in the 70th minute. After winning a corner kick, sophomore Bella Juliano sent it in and found the head of freshman Angelina Rodriguez who drove it into the back of the net, tying the contest at one.
- Bridgeport looked to regain its lead 54 seconds later when Macedo looked for her second of the contest, but junior goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz made a comfortable save to keep the game tied.
- The Lions offense would increase its pressure over the next seven minutes totaling four shots, three which were saved by Hernandez.
- In the 78th minute sophomore Jana Strait was able to take advantage of a loose ball and fire a shot that beat Hernandez to put Molloy in front, 2-1.
- 47 seconds later, Zawol streaked down the right sideline towards the corner flag. The freshman sent a ball towards goal that soared over the head of Hernandez and into the back of the net, increasing the Molloy lead, 3-1.
- The cardinal and white would not allow a shot in the final 11:45 of the contest and would go on to secure the victory, 3-1.

- Strait netted her fifth goal of the season while tying a team-high six shots.
- Zawol tallied her second goal of the campaign while collecting a season-high three shots with two coming on goal.
- Rodriguez collected her first collegiate goal.
- Juliano handed out her fifth assist of the year.
- In goal, Muñoz was forced to make one save.
- Molloy totaled a season-high 29 shots and 16 shots on goal.
