Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Defeats STAC, 4-0

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team kept rolling Saturday afternoon picking up a 4-0 victory over the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions move its winning streak to four games holding a 6-2-2 overall record and 2-0-1 in East Coast Conference play, while the Spartans move to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.
 
How it Happened
  • Senior Olivia Ingenito put together a pair of golden chances in the fourth and sixth minute, but both shots missed target.
  • The contest turned into a defensive possession battle over the next 17 minutes of play, as neither team recorded a shot.
  • In the 25th minute after being pulled down in the 18-yard box, graduate student Emma Beattie earned herself a penalty kick. The Carle Place native stepped to the penalty spot and drilled it into the back of the net, putting the Lions on the board, 1-0.
  • Molloy would dominate the remainder of the first half, totaling six shots with four coming from sophomore Sarah Cavallo, but none were able to find the goal as the cardinal and white took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • 13 seconds into the second half, Cavallo streaked down the right flank crossed a pass into the box and found sophomore Jana Strait who finished, increasing the Molloy lead, 2-0.
  • The offensive pressure continued throughout the second half into the 61st minute. Sophomore Bella Juliano sent a ball to the far post that senior Mikaela Barriga finished to extend the lead, 3-0.
  • The cardinal and white capped the game in the 77th minute. Juliano sent in a corner kick and junior Madison Keenan headed it into the net closing the contest with Molloy the victors, 4-0.
Top Performances
  • Beattie, Strait, Barriga, and Keenan all netted goals.
  • Juliano dished out two assists.
  • Cavallo tallied an assist while leading the team with seven shots with four coming on goal.
  • In goal, junior Elyse Muñoz was forced to make one save while picking up her fifth shutout of the season.

Molloy travels to Bridgeport Wednesday, October 8 for a non-conference matchup against the Purple Knights. The contest is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
