Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 shut out over the Saints of D'Youville Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. As a result the Lions earn themselves a first round bye in the ECC tournament improving to 9-2-4 overall and 4-0-3 in East Coast Conference play, while the Saints move to 2-9-3 overall and 1-4-1 in league play.
Prior to the contest, the program celebrated its member of the senior class:
Mikaela Barriga (Respiratory Care),
Emma Beattie (Education/Special Education),
Olivia Ingenito (Psychology),
Nikki Mitchell (Speech-Language Pathology), and
Abigail Smith (Psychology).
How it Happened
- The first chance of the game came from Mitchell in the 11th minute, when she fired a shot that would be saved.
- The Saints put together two golden chances in the 15th minute. Hannah Fleming of D'Youville had her shot denied by junior goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz and the rebound was denied by Beattie at the goal line, keeping the Saints off the board.
- Molloy earned the games first tally in the 27th minute. Junior Isabella Muro crossed a ball into the box and found the right foot of Beattie who blew it past the goalkeeper to put the Lions on the board, 1-0.
- In the 43rd minute freshman Angelina Rodriguez looked to extend the lead, but her shot would be blocked to send the game into halftime, 1-0.
- Six minutes into the second half, Beattie looked for her second of the afternoon, but her attempt would go wide of target.
- The 55th minute saw Molloy extend its lead, 2-0, after Muro chipped a ball past the back line and to the foot of Ingenito who finished it off.
- The cardinal and white's defense would clamp down as the second half continued, limiting chances from the Saints.
- D'Youville would have a chance to cut the lead in half in the 79th minute, but Muñoz would make a comfortable save.
- The final chance of the contest came with 1:06 to play from the visitors, but Muñoz would tally one more save to secure the 2-0 victory.
Top Performances
- Beattie netted her fifth goal of the campaign while Ingenito collected her ninth.
- Muro dished out two assists to collect her second multi-assist game of the season.
- In goal, Muñoz made three saves.

Molloy concludes their conference schedule and will travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. for a matchup against Dominican Tuesday, October 28. Kick-off is slated for 3:30 p.m.
