Women’s Soccer Tangles With Queens To Scoreless Draw

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team and the Knights of Queens College battled to a scoreless draw, Wednesday evening at John A. Darcy Field. As a result, the Lions sit at 8-2-4 overall and 3-0-3 in East Coast Conference play, while the Knights move to 2-6-6 overall and 1-2-3 in league play.

How it Happened
  • A defensive back and forth kicked off the contest in the opening 10 minutes before sophomore Isabella Muro tallied the games first shot in the 12th minute.
  • Olivia Ingenito tried to get the Lions on the board in the 17th minute, but her shot sailed wide of target.
  • 17 minutes would go by until Queens put together a scoring chance when Ashley Kieblesz fired a shot that went just high off the crossbar.
  • The first shot on goal came from Muro in the 35th minute, but her shot would be denied.
  • In the 40th minute sophomore Gabrielle Justiniano settled a loose ball and fired it on net, but the attempt was saved by Knights goalkeeper Sam Hines-Hirsch, sending the contest into halftime without a score.
  • Eight minutes into the second half, senior Mikaela Barriga threatened to get the Lions on the scoreboard, but her shot would be saved.
  • Barriga would have a second chance a minute later with a header attempt, but it was denied by a Queens defender by the goal line.
  • The 64th minute saw the road team gather a scoring opportunity, but junior goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz made a comfortable save.
  • Sophomore Michela Napolitano put together a scoring chance in the 69th minute, firing a shot that would be saved.
  • The cardinal and white tallied a pair of chances nine seconds apart between the 74th and 75th minute. Following a free kick, sophomore Sarah Cavallo had her header attempt swept off the goal line by a Knights defender and the follow up attempt from freshman Gianna Zawol was sent high.
  • The Knights generated a scoring chance in the 80th minute, with a rising shot that made Munoz stretch out to save.
  • In the 89th minute Kieblesz looked to give the visitors the lead, but her shot would curl high and wide of the right post.
  • With eight seconds to play, Molloy generated a chance in transition. Cavallo broke to her right just outside of the 18-yard box to fire a shot, but the attempt would be saved to end the contest in a scoreless draw.
Top Performances
  • Barriga led the team with four shots and tied Cavallo with three shots on goal.
  • In goal, Muñoz made three saves to notch her sixth shut out of the season.
 
Up Next
The Lions will conclude East Coast Conference play on Senior Day Saturday, October 25 as they welcome D'Youville to Rockville Centre. The contest is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. with a senior day ceremony to begin at 2:15 p.m.
