Washington, D.C. - The women's basketball team fell to the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia, 82-47, this afternoon. Molloy sits at 9-11 on the season and 3-5 in East Coast Conference play in the loss while UDC is now 7-10 (5-3 ECC) in the victory.
How it Happened
- The Firebirds netted the first basket of the game and quickly went ahead by double digits on the back of a 12-0 run.
- The Lions would come within 10 in the final seconds of the first quarter, but trailed 23-11 after 10 minutes of play.
- The home team's run continued into the second quarter, scoring eight-straight points in four minutes.
- The Lions were held to two field goals in the frame and trailed 42-18 at the break.
- Layups from seniors Samantha Muller and Janel Moore brought the visitors to within 20, 42-22, early in the third quarter but the Firebirds were able to shoot at a 43 percent clip in the second half for the victory.
Top Performances
- Muller, graduate student Danielle Hippner, and junior Casey Campo each netted seven points for the Lions.
- Muller also topped the score sheet with a career-high five steals. Hippner put up six blocks in the effort.
- Junior Rosa Rizzitelli led with nine rebounds.
