Field Hockey Opens 2024 With Win Over Roberts Wesleyan

Seaford, N.Y.- The field hockey team kicked off the 2024 campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference match up this afternoon at Cedar Creek Park. With the game tied and just over four minutes remaining in the game, junior Catherine Amini scored the decisive goal to secure Molloy's first victory since 2022. Molloy improved to 1-0 on the season with the victory while Roberts Wesleyan fell to 0-2.

How it Happened
  • The first opportunity of the contest came from the Lions in the first minute and a half of play with a shot from sophomore Mia Babino.
  • Molloy dominated the first quarter, drawing six corners, finally breaking through on the sixth attempt, when senior Devin Harkins' pass connected with sophomore Lauren Brodowsky to put the ball in the back of the net.
  • The visiting team leveled the score five minutes into the second quarter when Peyton Ayer capitalized on her own rebound.
  • The Lions' defense shut out the Redhawks in the third frame, not allowing any shots.
  • The defense continued to be resilient in the final quarter, fending off a corner for Roberts and quickly earning two of their own, setting up another scoring opportunity.
  • With just over three minutes remaining in the game, Harkins had her shot off the corner saved, but Amini would score the go-ahead goal off a pass from Babino, making it a 2-1 contest.
  • With just under two minutes remaining in the game, sophomore Kayla Lipscomb made a crucial diving stick save to secure Molloy's first win of the season.
