Women’s Soccer Falls to Bentley

Waltham, Mass. – The Molloy women's soccer team fell to the Falcons of Bentley University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon in the Bentley Kickoff Tournament. The Lions move to 0-2 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 2-0.
 
How it Happened
  • The two teams traded a shot a piece in the opening 10 minutes with both attempts being blocked by the opposing back line.
  • Bentley created a chance in the 17th minute, the shot strayed wide of target.
  • 20 minutes would go by before the Lions had its first shot not get blocked. Freshman Jana Strait found space and fired, but her shot missed left of the net.
  • Freshman Lauren Hickey recorded the first shot on net for the cardinal and white, but the attempt was saved in the 42nd minute to keep the game without a score.
  • The home team had one last chance to take the lead before halftime in the 43rd minute, but sophomore goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz denied the chance to keep the game scoreless at the break.
  • Coming out of the locker room Bentley won a penalty kick following a foul in the 59th minute, but Muñoz denied Jillian Hendriksen at the penalty dot to keep the Falcons off the board.
  • Eight minutes would go by before the home team would break the seal, finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 advantage.
  • In the 75th minute, sophomore Isabella Muro looked for the equalizer, but her attempt was denied by Bentley goalkeeper Claire Ewen.
  • Seven minutes would go by before the next opportunity for Molloy. Freshman Madison Falkowski looked to knot the game at one, but her attempt was blocked by the Bentley defense.
  • The cardinal and white would create two final chances in the last two minutes with shots from freshmen Bella Juliano and Strait, but neither shot would land on target as Bentley would come away with the victory, 1-0.
Top Performances
  • Strait tallied three shots.
  • Hickey and Muro totaled one shot on goal each.
  • In goal, Muñoz made four saves.
Up Next
The Lions return to Rockville Centre for its home opener Wednesday, September 11. They kick off against the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College at 4:00 p.m.
