Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.- The field hockey team faced Mercy University for the second time this season in a non-conference match up, and fell 2-0. The Lions sit at 1-5 (0-2 NE10) while the Mavericks improve to 5-1 (2-0 NE10).
 
How it Happened

• Freshman goalie Kalya Balsamo made an early save after a corner for Mercy and followed it up with two more saves to keep the Mavericks scoreless in the first 15 minutes of play.
• Mercy's Rachel Palladino broke the stalemate with an assist from Madison Preston in the 36th minute.
• Freshman Samantha Naples had a late opportunity in the third quarter, but her shot was stopped by Mercy's goalkeeper, Rebecca McClure.
• Senior Devin Harkins saw her shot blocked early in the fourth quarter.
• Preston doubled the Mavericks' lead with a goal assisted by Palladino.
• The Lions pressed Mercy's defense with two corners late in the fourth quarter, but were unable to capitalize, securing a 2-0 victory for the home team.

Top Performances

• Balsamo made a career-high 12 saves in net.
• Junior Gianna Mastrocco led the offense, taking two shots, including one on net.
• Naples, Harkins, and sophomore Farah Amarando each took one shot a piece.
