Women’s Soccer Edged at Franklin Pierce

 
Rindge, N.H. – The Molloy women's soccer team fell to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University, 1-0, Tuesday evening at Sodexo Field. The Lions move to 1-4 on the campaign, while the Ravens improve to 6-1.
 
How it Happened
  • Three minutes into the contest, Franklin Pierce generated its first chance with a shot that went wide left of target.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz was challenged for the first time in the 14th minute, but was able to make a clean save.
  • Molloy's first chance came off the foot of freshman Meghan Wetzel that went wide of target three minutes later.
  • The next Lions chance came in the 25th minute when freshman Jana Strait received a pass from sophomore Isabella Muro, but the shot went high of the crossbar.
  • The final two chances of the opening half occurred in the final five minutes, when the home team applied pressure with a pair of shots on target, but Muñoz made two saves to send the contest into halftime without a score.
  • Coming out of the locker room, the Ravens put together two chances in a 1:02 span, but both attempts were denied by Muñoz in the 53rd and 54th minute.
  • 15 minutes would go by without a chance, as both teams back line played stout to keep the contest scoreless.
  • Franklin Pierce threatened in the 70th minute looking for a tally, but Muñoz would stand strong and make another save.
  • The cardinal and white would generate its first chance of the second half in the 85th minute, when Muro received a through ball down the left sideline. The sophomore took one touch to her right and fired, but the shot rang off the cross bar to keep Molloy off the board.
  • Three minutes later, the Ravens would find the back of the net and break the scoreless tie and go on to win the contest, 1-0.

  • Muro, Strait, and Wetzel totaled one shot each.
  • In goal, Muñoz made six saves.

Molloy returns home to begin East Coast Conference play Saturday, September 28 as they host the Mavericks of Mercy University. Game time from John A. Darcy Field is set for 12:00 p.m.
