Oceanside, N.Y.- The tennis team dropped its match today against Queens College, 7-0. The Lions sit at 0-5 (0-2 ECC) and the Knights start the season at 1-0.
In doubles action, sophomores
Alice Fartushynska and
Isabella Fortaleza secured two games in the third spot before falling 6-2 to Rea Hagishima and Mariana Ling. In the top spot, senior
Elena Baughman Saunders and freshman
Erin Sanchez were defeated 6-1 by Caroline Hany-Fawzy and Kyra Bergmann.
In singles play, Sanchez battled hard, winning two games in the first set and narrowly losing the second 6-4 to Regina Ruiz in the third spot. In the fifth spot, freshman
Ashley Bonilla managed two games in her first set against Kayla Taszymowicz, while Baughman Saunders and Fortaleza each won one game in their respective matches.
The tennis team travels to Waterbury, Conn. on Sunday (Sept. 22) to take on Post University at 12:00 p.m.
