Field Hockey Shut Out Against D'Youville

Seaford, N.Y.- The field hockey team fell to D'Youville this morning at Cedar Creek Park, 3-0. The Lions drop to 1-2 on the season and the Saints improve to 3-1.
 
How it Happened
  • The Lions defense came out strong, successfully defending four corners in the opening three minutes.
  • Freshman Samantha Naples fired off two shots on two early corners for the Lions.
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Lipscomb made an initial save on Kelsey Robertson's shot, but Olvia McClaine was there for the rebound to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
  • Madisyn Grawl doubled D'Youville's lead in the 27th minute of play.
  • Sophomore Farah Amarando and junior Gianna Mastrocco each had back-to-back shots saved by the Saints' goalie Hayden Herbold at the end of the first half.
  • D'Youville extended its lead early in the third frame as McClaine scored her second goal, making it a 3-0 game.
  • Lipscomb recorded three consecutive saves in the 55th minute of play to hold the visitors to three.
 
Top Performances
  • Freshman Catherine Sasso made her first career defensive save.
  • Naples led the offensive taking four shots, all of which were on net.
  • Lipscomb made a career-high nine saves in net.
  • Junior Catherine Amini took two shots, while Mastrocco and Amarando each took one a piece.
