Men's Lacrosse Falls to #5 Mercy, 12-7

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team fell to the fifth-ranked Mavericks of Mercy University, 12-7, this afternoon from John A. Darcy Field. Molloy sits at an even 6-6 on the season and 2-2 in East Coast Conference play in the loss while Mercy is now 9-1 (4-0 ECC).

How it Happened
  • The Mavericks shut out the Lions in the first quarter, taking a 4-0 lead. 
  • Senior Mikey Rodin put Molloy on the board on a man-up goal, burying a feed from junior Noah Taylor. 
  • Taylor then scored another man-up marker from junior Tommy Corcoron, but Mercy would score four times in the second quarter to take an 8-2 lead into the halftime break.
  • The Molloy defense nearly held the visitors scoreless in the third frame, not allowing a goal through the first 10 minutes, but Mercy would lead 10-2 after 45 minutes.
  • The Mavericks would score twice in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, but the remainder of the scoring belong to the Lions.
  • Molloy would convert on three more extra man opportunities, going 5-for-6 in total, with goals from Corcoron, Rodin, and redshirt freshman Brian Green.
  • Corcoron also added an even strength goal while freshman Rocco Hogan rounding out the scoring. 
Top Performances
  • Taylor (one goal, three assists) and Corcoron (two goals, two assists) led the Lions with four points. It is the first multi-goal game of Corcoron's career.
  • Green added an assist to his goal for two points while Rodin scored twice.
  • Hogan's marker is the first goal and point of his collegiate career.
  • Sophomore Brandon Pazienza led with four ground balls, going 9-of-20 on face-offs. 
  • Sophomores Justin Palulis and Josh Sutherland and senior Denver Tveter each picked up three ground balls. 
  • Tveter and sophomore Shawn McCabe each forced two turnovers.
  • Michaels made 13 saves in the effort and picked up two ground balls.

The Lions return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 9) as they host #4 Adelphi University at 7:00 p.m. from the Rockville Centre Sports Complex.
