Women's Lacrosse Tops STAC on Senior Night, 17-8

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team earned a dominant 17-8 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College this evening to end the regular season. The Lions sit at 8-7 and 3-3 in East Coast Conference play and will occupy the fourth-seed in the upcoming ECC Championship. STAC ends the season at 4-12 (1-5 ECC).

Before the game, Molloy recognized the careers of seniors Jessica Kofod (nursing), Erin Murphy (nursing), Mary-Kate Sweeney (interdisciplinary studies), and Joanna Mauceri (education) in a Senior Night ceremony. 

How it Happened
  • The first quarter belonged to the Lions, taking a 10-0 lead with two goals from junior Megan Rugolo, two from freshman Victoria Bustamante, and two from junior Sofia Quitoni, and one each from juniors Brenna Signorelli and Alexa Amorison as well as one from seniors Murphy and Mauceri. 
  • Rugolo's third goal of the contest started the second quarter before Katelyn Cerrato put STAC on the board.
  • Junior Alessandra Borsellino's first career goal paired with a second from Amorison incrased the lead to 13-1 before Cerrato closed the half with another goal to bring the Spartans within 11.
  • Rugolo once again opened the scoring in the third quarter followed by a goal from Hailey Galison from STAC.
  • Rugolo and Quitoni closed out the third quarter to make it 16-3.
  • Junior Isabella Klemm found the back of the net to open the final 15 minutes of action, but the final five goals of the contest would come off the sticks of Spartans to round out the score to 17-8.
Top Performances
  • Amorison had a season-high seven points on two goals and a career-high five assists. 
  • Rugolo netted six points on five goals and one assist to go with three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
  • Quitoni had three points on three goals, all coming from free position.
  • Mauceri (one goal, one assist), Murphy (one goal, one assist), Klemm (one goal, one assist), and Bustamante (two goals) each had two points.
  • Signorelli and Borsellino rounded out Molloy's offense with a goal each.
  • Mauceri topped the Lions with a career-high six ground balls as well as three caused turnovers and three draw controls.
  • Murphy picked up three ground balls to go with two draw controls.
  • Junior Carly Howell matched Mauceri with three caused turnovers while Rugolo forced two.
  • Bustamante led with five draw controls, matching a career-high.
  • Sweeney made two saves in net with freshman Nicole Schaumloffel making one in relief.
Up Next
Molloy will take on top-seeded Roberts Wesleyan University in the first round of the ECC Tournament on Thursday, May 2. Game time from Rochester is to be determined.
