New Castle, Del. - With 10 stops in this afternoon's contest against the University of Wilmington, junior goalie
Christian Michaels became the men's lacrosse program's all-time leading saves leader with 644 career saves to date. The Lions fell in the regular season finale, 18-15, entering the postseason with an 8-9 record. Wilmington improved to 10-3 with the win.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Konrad Maciejny found the back of the net just 10 seconds into the contest, giving Molloy a lead.
- The two teams would exchange scoring in the following two possessions, with seniors Chris Delaney and Jack Herzlinger helping the Lions to a 3-2 lead.
- The Wildcats would net the next two goals before goals from Herzlinger, Delaney, and junior Dre Alexis gave the visitors a 6-4 lead after 15 minutes of play.
- Scoring in the second quarter belonged nearly entirely to the home team, with a string of six-straight goals giving Wilmington a 10-6 lead.Â
- Delaney and Herzlinger each tallied their third of the contest in the final minutes of the opening half to bring Molloy back within two.
- Back-to-back goals from junior Noah Taylor tied the score for the Lions in the first three minutes of the third quarter.
- Each side would respond with back-to-back goals before another lengthy stretch, three-straight, for the home team put WU ahead, 15-12, after 45 minutes of play.
- Maciejny scored his second of the game in the fourth quarter. Two goals from redshirt freshman Brian Green kept the Lions within two, 17-15, but the home team rounded out the scoring in the final minute of play for the 18-15 victory.
