Eight-Goal Third Quarter Sinks Men's Lacrosse at Mercy in ECC Semifinal

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse season came to an end this afternoon at Mercy Field following a 19-11 loss to the top-seeded Mavericks. The fourth-seeded Lions end 2024 with an 8-10 record while the 13-1 Mavericks move on to the East Coast Conference Championship Game on Saturday (May 4).

How it Happened
  • The two squads exchanged goals in the opening half of the first quarter with Molloy's markers coming from junior Tommy Corcoron and redshirt freshman Brian Green.
  • The home team would follow with a stretch of three goals to lead 5-2 with just under four minutes remaining in the opening frame.
  • An extra-man goal from Corcoron and a goal from senior Chris Delaney brought the Lions within one, 5-4, at the end of 15 minutes.
  • Junior Dre Alexis broke down the field five minutes into the second quarter and scored the game-tying goal.
  • Mercy quickly got one back just under four minutes later, but a second fast-break goal, this time from senior Adam Hyman, tied the contest for the fourth time.
  • From there, Mercy would score the next 11-straight goals spanning nearly 15 minutes of play.
  • The Lions bridged the gap to end the third quarter with three-unanswered goals, one from sophomore Brandon Pazienza and man-up markers from both Corcoron and junior Bryan Diliberto. 
  • Green scored for Molloy's fifth man-up goal to start the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to seven, 17-10.
  • The Mavericks added two more goals in the final nine minutes before Corcoron scored his fourth to end the game.
Top Performances
  • Corcoron's five points and four goals paced the Lions
  • .Green netted three points on two goals and one assist. 
  • Junior Noah Taylor (two assists) and Diliberto (one goal, one assist) each had two points.
  • Delaney, Hyman, Pazienza, and Alexis each tallied goals. 
  • Pazienza also led with six ground balls, going 10-of-32 on face-offs.
  • Sophomore Thomas Kofod had four ground balls and two caused turnovers, topping the Lions in both categories, while Taylor and junior Christian Michaels each scooped up three ground balls.
  • Michaels made 13 stops in net. Junior John Basile made two stops in the final eight minutes in relief.
