Savage's Home Run Highlights Softball Split Against Queens College

Rockville Centre, N.Y.- The softball team split a doubleheader with Queens College this afternoon, falling 6-5 before claiming a 6-1 victory. The Lions stand at 25-17 (13-3 East Coast Conference) and the Knights now hold a record of 14-24 (7-9 ECC).
 
Game One: Queens 6, Molloy 5
How it Happened
  • Queens' bats wasted no time in the first inning, scoring four runs on a double and two home runs.
  • A double to center field for senior Katie Hand got things started for the Lions in the bottom of the second inning.
  • Sophomore Mae Savage followed up with a single up the middle to move Hand to third.
  • An infield single for fellow sophomore Emily McGurk drove in the run to put Molloy on the board.
  • The score remained unchanged until the top of the sixth inning where a pair of singles to center field from Adrianna Fracchioni and Allie Parascandola  and a single through the left side for Emma Zumpol would extend the Knights' lead, 6-1.
  • Freshman Stevie Dabbadie reached on a fielding error to start the home half of the sixth.
  • A pair of singles from junior Natalie Moussa and Hand would load the bases before Savage plated a run with a fielder's choice.
  • Graduate student Emma Bachman hit a double to left field to score two more runs, cutting the deficit to 6-4.
  • Senior Brianna Macias held Queens to two hits in the top of the seventh frame to keep the Lions within striking distance.
  • Conrade hit a lead-off single to third base before stealing second.
  • A walk to graduate student Alex Burns put runners on first and second.
  • Dabbadie singled down the right field line to score Conrade, putting Molloy within one.
  • Junior Cheralyn Dusharme reached on a fielder's choice before a walk to Hand loaded the bases, but Queens would work its way out of the inning with a double play to secure the 6-5 win.
Top Performances
  • Bachman went 2-for-3 including a double and 2 RBI.
  • Conrade and Hand each contributed two hits in the effort, with Conrade stealing two bases.
  • Macias struck out four batters in 6.1 innings of relief.
 
Game Two: Molloy 6, Queens 1
How it Happened
  • After four innings of scoreless play, Molloy struck first with a pair of singles from Hand and freshman Mariah Cepeda to set the table for Savage's first home run of the campaign, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead.
  • Dabbadie led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a single through the right side before a double to right field from Hand increased the lead to four.
  • Senior Chrissie Huhn started the bottom of the sixth inning with a lead-off single through the left side.
  • A sacrifice bunt from Conrade and a single from Dabbadie positioned Huhn to score following an error during Hand's at bat. 
  • The Lions capitalized on a wild pitch to give the home team a commanding 6-0 lead.
  • A pair of singles and a fielding error put Queens on the board in the top of the seventh inning.
  • A fly out and a strike out by Moussa would end the inning, clinching a 6-1 win for Molloy.
Top Performances
  • Dabbadie struck out a career-high five batters, allowing no runs on four hits, to improve to 6-4 on the season.
  • Dabbadie, Cepeda, Hand, and Huhn all had two hit performances.
  • Savage drove in three runs, with Hand plating one.

The Lions will step out of conference play for a doubleheader against the Setters of Pace University on Wednesday (Apr 24) in Pleasantville, N.Y. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
