Women’s Lacrosse Slips to RV New Haven

West Haven, Conn. – The Molloy women's lacrosse fell to the Chargers of the University of New Haven, 11-9, Saturday afternoon at Kathy Zolad Stadium. The Lions move to 6-7 on the campaign, while the Chargers improve to 7-4.
 
How it Happened
  • Graduate student Joanna Mauceri started the scoring in the opening 3:20 to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
  • After back-to-back goals from New Haven to give them a 2-1 lead, junior Brenna Signorelli knotted the contest at two heading into the second quarter.
  • Signorelli and Mauceri netted consecutive goals in a two-minute span to open the second stanza to push Molloy in front, 4-2.
  • The home team answered quickly, scoring two goals in 33 seconds to bring the contest all-square at four with 7:24 left in the first half.
  • Mauceri broke the tie 58 seconds later with her third goal of the contest to give the Lions a 5-4 advantage with under seven minutes to go.
  • With 1:46 to play in the second quarter, junior Isabella Klemm found the back of the net to extend the Molloy lead to two, 6-4, heading into halftime.
  • Junior Megan Rugolo continued the scoring run for Molloy to start the third to give the Lions a 7-4 lead.
  • New Haven would go on a five-goal rally and hold the Lions scoreless for the remainder of the quarter to take a 9-7 lead into the fourth.
  • Rugolo snapped the rally with her second goal of the contest to bring Molloy within one, 9-8, with 11:25 to play.
  • The Chargers answered with two straight goals within 1:31 to reclaim its three-goal advantage, 11-8.
  • The cardinal and white would net a goal with 3:16 to play to come within two, 11-9, but that is where the contest would stay as New Haven would hold on to the lead and complete the victory.
Top Performances
  • Rugolo paced the squad four points (three goals and one assist).
  • Mauceri collected a hat trick and led the team with three caused turnovers.
  • Signorelli netted a pair of goals.
  • In goal, senior Mary-Kate Sweeney made 10 saves.
