No. 18 Baseball Late Comeback Falls Short at St. Thomas Aquinas

Pomona, N.Y. – The 18
th-ranked Molloy baseball team saw its come from behind attempt fall short Monday afternoon as they fell to the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas, 6-5, at Clover Stadium. The Lions move to 18-8 overall and 4-3 in East Coast Conference play, while the Spartans improve to 10-15 overall and 1-2 in league play.

How it Happened
- After two innings of scoreless baseball, Molloy plated two runs in the top of the third following an error to take a 2-0 lead.
- St. Thomas Aquinas got one back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double from Billy Minett to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.
- Two more runs would cross the plate in the bottom of the fifth for the Spartans, off a pair of sacrifice flies to pull in front, 3-2.
- The home team continued its scoring in the bottom of the sixth, putting together a three-run inning to open a 6-2 lead after six innings of action.
- The Lions began its comeback in the eighth, plating three runs to come within one, 6-5. Junior Nicholas Dagnello knocked in a run with an RBI triple, junior Patrick Sanchez scored the lefty with an RBI single and came around to score following a run scoring single from freshman Joe Burriesci.
- In the top of the ninth after junior JJ DeVito led off with a walk, senior Aidan Larkin bunted DeVito into scoring position with one out. DeVito advanced to third following a fly out, putting the game-tying run 90 feet from the plate, but the Spartans would halt the Lions comeback chances with a strikeout to end the contest with the victory, 6-5.Â
