Box Score 2 Uniondale, N.Y. – The No. 18 baseball team swept the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 13-10 and 12-2. Molloy put up a six-run eighth inning to win game one before limiting the Spartans to just two hits in the second game. After the doubleheader, Molloy sits at 18-7 on the season and 4-2 in East Coast Conference play while STAC falls to 9-15 (0-2 ECC).
Game One: Molloy 13, St. Thomas Aquinas 10
- After scoreless first inning, St. Thomas Aquinas hung four runs in the top of the second following an RBI single and a three-run home run to go in front, 4-0.
- Molloy responded with its own four-run inning in the bottom of the frame to knot the contest at four. Junior Nicholas Dagnello collected a two-run triple and came around to score following a double from junior Patrick Sanchez, and senior Aidan Larkin capped the inning with a sacrifice fly.
- The Spartans scored runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to reestablish its lead, 7-4.
- The Lions got two back in the bottom of the fifth, senior Anthony Manisero drove a double into the left center field gap to plate a run and Dagnello knocked in a run with a single to cut the deficit to one, 7-6.
- The road team, once again, reestablished its multi-run lead scoring three runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead, 10-6.
- In the bottom of the frame, junior JJ DeVito led off the inning with a solo home run to shrink the deficit to three, 10-7.
- The Lions used a two-out rally in the bottom of the eighth to plate six runs to pull ahead, 13-10. Senior Matt Yip connected for a two-run home run, freshman Joe Burriesci plated a pair with a single into center field, and two runs crossed the plate following a pair of wild pitches to cap the six-run inning.
- The Spartans would get the lead off runner on in the top of the ninth, but junior JC Kiss induced a double play and struck out the final batter of the contest to solidify the come from behind victory, 13-10.
- Manisero totaled four hits, three runs scored, and one RBI.
- Dagnello drove in three runs.
- Burriesci and Yip drove in two runs each with the designated hitter collecting his sixth home run of the season.
- Graduate student Charlie Cucchiara tossed five innings allowing seven hits, nine runs, seven earned and struck out seven in the no-decision.
- Junior JC Kiss tossed four innings of relief allowing one run, on five hits, and struck out four to pick up the win and improve to 4-1 on the campaign.
Game One: Molloy 12, St. Thomas Aquinas 2
- After a hit-less first inning on both sides, the cardinal and white exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second inning.
- Sanchez started the scoring with an RBI double, freshman Anthony Marsillo had two runs score following an infield single, DeVito tripled home two, and came around to score following an error to cap the inning and give the Lions a 6-0 lead.
- Molloy's bats continued to stay red hot on the afternoon in the home half of the fourth. Senior Gavin McAlonie singled to the opposite field to bring home Marsillo and Yip blasted a three-run home run over the left field fence to give the Lions a commanding, 10-0, advantage.
- A single from Dagnello and double from Marsillo set up DeVito for a two-run single through the left side to round out Molloy's scoring.
- STAC got on the board on the back of solo home runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
