Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

RV Women's Lacrosse Downed in OT at D'Youville

Buffalo, N.Y. - It would take nearly 66 minutes to decide, but the RV women's lacrosse team would ultimately fall 11-10 to the Saints of D'Youville University to open up East Coast Conference play. The Lions drop to 5-4 on the season in the loss while D'Youville improves to 4-5 with the victory.

How it Happened
  • D'Youville would be first on the board, but Molloy responded with three-straight goals, two from junior Megan Rugolo and one from junior Sofia Quitoni
  • The Saints would close the opening quarter with three goals to take a 4-3 lead after 15 minutes.
  • Quitoni tied the contest to start the second quarter before Sydney Gordon netted her third of the contest to set the score at 5-5.
  • Goals from Rugolo, Quitoni, and senior Erin Murphy gave the Lions a 7-5 lead before Madison Buck's marker in the final minute of the first half made it a one-goal game at the break.
  • Freshman Victoria Bustamante and junior Brenna Signorelli opened the second half up with a goal each to increase the lead to three, 9-6.
  • The Saints would once again come within one, but Rugolo closed the third quarter out with a woman-up goal.
  • The Lions took five shots in the fourth quarter, but none found the back of the net. Meanwhile, the Saints were able to score twice, including in the final three minutes, knotting the score. 
  • The home team attempted three shots in the final minute to win the contest, but senior Mary-Kate Sweeney made a crucial stop to force overtime. 
  • Rugolo took two shots on net in the extra frame and Murphy added one, but all were denied by Brinn Stworzydlak. 
  • The Saints' opportunity came on an extra-woman opportunity in the final 10 seconds of overtime as Gordon netted the game-winner. 
Top Performances
  • Rugolo tallied five points on four goals an assist, marking the sixth time this season the junior has reached five points. She also picked up a season-high four ground balls to go with three draw controls and two caused turnovers. 
  • Quitoni matched a career-high three goals and added an assist for four points while totaling two ground balls, one caused turnover, and one draw control. 
  • Bustamante added a helper to her goal for two points while controlling two draws, picking up two ground balls, and forcing a turnover.
  • Signorelli added three ground balls and two caused turnovers to her goal. Murphy forced a turnover and picked up two ground balls while scoring once.
  • Senior Joanna Mauceri matched a career-high five ground balls and five caused turnovers, leading the Lions in both categories, while controlling two draws. 
  • Juniors Carly Howell and Samantha King each forced two turnovers with King matching a career-high three ground balls.
  • Sweeney picked up three ground balls and made six saves in net.
