Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Early Lead Not Enough for Men's Lacrosse Against #19 Frostburg State

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's lacrosse team eyed its second-straight victory over No.19 Frostburg State this afternoon in a game plagued by torrential rain. Despite an 8-1 lead to start the contest, the Lions could not hang on against the Bobcats, who scored six in the fourth quarter, falling 12-11. Molloy sits at an even 5-5 on the season an 1-1 in East Coast Conference play while FSU improves to 6-2 (2-0 ECC).

How it Happened
  • Molloy was seemingly unaffected by the foul weather, taking a 4-0 lead after 15 minutes of play with goals from senior Chris Delaney, junior Bryan Diliberto, and sophomore Justin Palulis
  • Junior goalie Christian Michaels made five-straight saves to open the first quarter, but the Bobcats broke the streak following a Gregg Dort Jr. tally in the first 15 seconds of the second frame.
  • Molloy responded just 30 seconds later with a goal from redshirt freshman Brian Green before markers from junior Dre Alexis as well as Diliberto and Palulis made it 8-1 with just over six minutes left in the first half.
  • FSU was able to hold Molloy without a goal for over 20 minutes of game time, scoring three in a row to end the half before adding a fourth three minutes into the third quarter, setting the score at 8-5.
  • Green notched his second of the contest to stop the rally and regain the four-goal lead for the Lions with just over a minute left in the third quarter.
  • Frostburg's Bubba Love found the back of the net in the final 30 seconds of the third quarter before opening the fourth frame with a man-up goal to bring the Bobcats within two, 9-7.
  • Sophomore Konrad Maciejny sent a feed to junior Noah Taylor from the turf to give Molloy a 10-7 lead with 12 minutes to play.
  • FSU would come within one, 10-9, before junior Tommy Corcoron put the Lions back ahead by two with 9:30 on the clock.
  • The visitors would knot the score with just over four minutes left in the contest.
  • Molloy would win the resulting face-off after a time out, but turned the ball over and opened the door for Owen McCallum to give Frostburg its first lead of the afternoon with less than two minutes to play.
  • Sophomore Brandon Pazienza would once again win the face-off, but the Lions were unable to maintain possession for a final shot before time expired.
