Women's Lacrosse Opens Road Slate with Win at St. Rose

Albany, N.Y. - The women's lacrosse team improved to 4-0 with an 11-9 victory on the road over The College of Saint Rose this afternoon. The Golden Knights sit at 1-1 after the loss. 

How it Happened
  • Goals from juniors Alexa Amorison and Megan Rugolo gave Molloy a quick 2-0 advantage just four minutes into the contest.
  • St. Rose responded by scoring twice in a span of 13 seconds to tie the score before Amorison netted her second of the game to end the quarter with the Lions in front, 3-2.
  • Junior Brenna Signorelli assisted on back-to-back goals from senior Erin Murphy and freshman Victoria Bustamante to increase the lead to three midway through the second quarter.
  • The teams would exchange goals for the next three and a half minutes until back-to-back goals from senior Joanna Mauceri and Amorison ended the half with an 8-4 lead in favor of Molloy.
  • The Golden Knights would net two in the third quarter to come within two, 8-6.
  • Amorison tallied her fourth of the contest to start the fourth quarter before a string of three goals tied the contest at nine with 6:33 left to play.
  • Amorison and Rugolo book-ended the scoring by netting the final two goals of the contest and securing the win for the Lions.\
Top Performances
  • Amorison had a season-high five points on five goals. 
  • Signorelli tallied three points with three assists.
  • Rugolo and Mauceri each had two goals with Murphy and Bustamante added one each.
  • The pair of Rugolo and Mauceri each controlled five draws and forced two turnovers.
  • Junior Sofia Quitoni led with four caused turnovers. 
  • Signorelli and senior Jessica Kofod each topped the Lions with three ground balls. 
  • Senior Mary-Kate Sweeney made six saves in net.

The Lions return to Rockville Centre for the first of only two home games in the month of March, taking on Jefferson at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
