Boca Raton, Fla. - The women's lacrosse program kicked off the spring break trip to Florida with a loss to No. 20 Lynn University, 18-12. In the loss, the team's first of the season, Molloy falls to 4-1. Lynn improves to 4-1 on the season in the victory.
How it Happened
- Molloy took advantage of an early extra-woman opportunity as junior Brenna Signorelli save the Lions a 1-0 lead less than three minutes in.
- From there, the Fighting Knights would score six-straight goals before junior Megan Rugolo added one for the Lions to make it 6-2 after 15 minutes of play.
- Rugolo netted her second of the contest less than one minute into the second frame, but Kristyn Johnson scored back-to-back goals for Lynn to regain a five goal lead.
- Signorelli brought the cardinal and white within four off a feed from Rugolo before Johnson added her third of the quarter.
- Junior Alexa Amorison found the back of the net to close out Molloy's first half scoring, but the home team ended the half with a 10-5 advantage.
- Lynn started the third quarter with a woman-up goal before goals from freshman Brooke Grossjung and Rugolo brought Molloy within four, 12-8, midway through the frame.
- The Fighting Nights would net the next three-straight to close the quarter with a 15-8 lead.
- Rugolo and senior Erin Murphy would both score within the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to come back within five.
- Junior Sofia Quitoni rounded out Molloy's scoring with back-to-back goals within 90 seconds of each other to make it a 16-12 contest, but that would be as close as Molloy would get.
Top Performances
- Rugolo led with a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists. The attacker also led with eight draw controls.
- Quitoni added an assist to her two goals for a three-point afternoon, also controlling three draws.
- Signorelli had two points on two goals while Amorison and Grossjung each tallied a goal and an assist.
- Murphy had one goal.
- Senior Joanna Mauceri topped the Lions with four caused turnovers and added three ground balls and three draw controls.
- Junior Samantha King forced two turnovers to go with two ground balls.
- Senior Jessica Kofod and junior Carly Howell each picked up three ground balls.
- Senior Mary-Kate Sweeney made three saves in net to go with two ground balls while freshman Nicole Schaumloffel made two stops in relief.
