Murphy Matches Career-High in Women's Lacrosse Win at PBA

West Palm Beach, Fla. - The women's lacrosse team wrapped up its spring break Florida trip with a 13-9 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic this afternoon. The Lions improved to 5-2 on the season while the Sailfish fell to 3-5.

How it Happened
  • Goals from seniors Erin Murphy and Joanna Mauceri gave the Lions a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes of play.
  • The Sailfish responded with two goals before junior Sofia Quitoni regained the Molloy lead. 
  • In the following eight minutes of play, the teams exchanged goals, ending the quarter with Murphy's second goal of the afternoon and keeping the visitors in front, 5-4.
  • Molloy shutout PBA in the second quarter with Quitoni, junior Megan Rugolo, and freshmen Brooke Grossjung and Victoria Bustamante gave the cardinal and white a 9-4 lead at the halftime break.
  • A woman-up opportunity for the 'Fish broke the streak less than one minute into the third quarter, but junior Alexa Amorison put the Lions up by five, 10-5.
  • The home team closed out the third quarter with three goals in less than two minutes to come within two headed into the final frame. 
  • Murphy netted two in the fourth quarter, paired with one from Bustamante to keep the Lions in front and end the trip with a victory.
Top Performances
  • Rugolo led the Lions with five points on two goals and three assists while adding two ground balls.
  • Murphy matched a career-high four goals for four points and also picked up two ground balls.
  • Mauceri and Amorison each netted one goal and two assists for three points. Mauceri led with four draw controls and added four ground balls while Amorison picked up three ground balls.
  • Quitoni and Bustamante each had two points from their two goals as well as three draw controls. Bustamante lead with three caused turnovers to go with four ground balls.
  • The goal from Grossjung and an assist from junior Brenna Signorelli rounded out the Lions' offensive stats.
  • Junior Carly Howell led the contest with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • In net, senior Mary-Kate Sweeney made seven stops to go with three ground balls.

The Lions remain on the road on Wednesday (Mar. 20) as they take on Bentley University at 4:00 p.m. from Waltham, Mass.
