Softball Has Season-High 17 Hits Against Post

Melbourne, Fla. - The softball team split a doubleheader against Post University West Chester University of Pennsylvania to improve to 2-10 on the season. The Lions put up a season-high 17 hits against Post, winning 9-3, and fell to WCU 3-1. 

Game One: Molloy 9, Post 3
How it Happened
  • The Eagles were first on the board on a fielder's choice and a single up the middle to lead, 3-0.
  • Molloy had an explosive bottom of the third inning, batting through the entire line up and plating five runs. 
  • Senior Katie Hand singled and moved to second following a walk to sophomore Mae Savage. Graduate students Emma Bachman and Steph Conrade and senior Chrissie Huhn each drove in runs with singles to tie the contest.
  • Huhn and Conrade would both score on an outfield single from junior Natalie Moussa to make it 5-3. 
  • Huhn drove in another run in the fifth inning with a single up the middle before a fielding error plated a seventh run in the fifth inning. 
  • Conrade led off the seventh inning with an outfield single before being advanced after graduate student Alex Burns was hit by a pitch.
  • Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, allowing Conrade to score following freshman Kiara Gagan's single through the left side and a sacrifice fly from freshman Mariah Cepeda to make it 9-3. 
  • Senior Brianna Macias retired the final three batters in order to close out the contest.
Top Performances
  • Conrade led with four hits, going 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. 
  • Huhn tallied three hits, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Bachman also tallied three hits, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Hand had two hits, including a double.
  • Burns, Moussa, Gaghan, Savage, and freshman Stevie Dabbadie each had hits.
  • In the circle, Moussa went 2.1 innings in the start, striking out two batters. Dabbadie tossed 3.2 innings in relief, striking out three batters and allowing just one hit for her first collegiate win. Macias tallied one strikeout in the last inning to close out the contest.
Game Two: West Chester 3, Molloy 1
How it Happened
  • The Golden Rams went to work quickly, plating two runs in the top of the first inning on a single to right field and a double to left center.
  • An outfield single made it 3-0 in the third inning. 
  • West Chester had a base runner in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but the Molloy defense and freshman pitcher Sophia Mariottini were able to shut down any further runs, including a double play in the top of the fifth.
  • Junior Charalyn Dusharme broke up a no hitter for WCU in the seventh inning with a center field single. Savage and sophomore Emily McGurk both followed up with singles to load the bases for Bachman, who drove in a run with a ground out to second base. 
  • Molloy would be unable to overcome the two run deficit, falling 3-1.
Top Performances 
  • Dusharme, Savage, and McGurk recorded the lone hits for the Lions. 
  • Bachman drove in the team's lone run.
  • Mariottini had a complete game effort, allowing nine hits while striking out three.

Molloy concludes the spring break trip tomorrow (Mar. 13) against Florida Tech with a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m. from the USSSA Space Coast Complex.
