Softball Concludes USSSA Space Coast Spring Games Against Florida Tech

Melbourne, Fla. - The softball team concluded its appearance at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games this afternoon with two losses to Florida Tech. Molloy returns to Rockville Centre with a record of 2-12 while Florida Tech improved to 17-11.

Game One: Florida Tech 3, Molloy 2
How it Happened
  • After four and a half scoreless innings, the Lions would be first on the board in the home half of the fifth inning. 
  • Singles from graduate students Emma Bachman and Steph Conrade and senior Chrissie Huhn loaded the bases for graduate student Alex Burns, who plated Bachman with a sacrifice fly to left field.
  • Florida Tech had runners on second and third when a bunt single from Jolie Mirale tied the contest. A sacrifice fly foul out from Katie Hogue and a double from Mya Ogbodiewgu gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead.
  • Sophomore Emily McGurk led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a ground rule double to left field before a well-placed single to left from Bachman put runners on first and third.
  • Huhn put down a fielder's choice bunt to load the bases before Burns would bring a run in with a fielder's choice and bring Molloy within one. 
  • The next two batters for the Lions would be retired, giving Florida Tech the one-run victory.
Top Performances
  • Burns and Bachman each went 2-for-3 with Burns driving in two runs. 
  • McGurk went 1-for-3 with a double. Huhn, Conrade, junior Katie Hand also recorded a hit. 
  • Freshman Sophia Mariottini tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three batters. 
Game Two: Florida Tech 6, Molloy 1
How it Happened
  • Florida Tech was first to score, taking a 1-0 lead on a double from Miracle in the bottom of the third.
  • Conrade led off the top of the fourth inning with a triple to the center field fence followed by a walk to Burns.
  • The pair executed a double steal, with Conrade's swipe of home tying the contest.
  • The Panthers would score four runs on five hits and a stolen base in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 5-1. 
  • A single in the sixth inning rounded out the scoring.
Top Performances
  • Savage led with two hits in a 2-for-3 day at the plate. 
  • Conrade and junior Natalie Moussa each added Conrade and Burns each stealing a base. 
  • Freshman Stevie Dabbadie tossed 4.1 innings, striking out one. Senior Brianna Macias went 1.2 innings in relief, striking out two batters.
