No. 13 Baseball Drops Matchup Against New Haven

Boca Raton, Fla. – The 13th-ranked Molloy baseball team fell to the Chargers of the University of New Haven, 15-9, Monday morning at Lynn University. The Lions move to 11-3 on the season, while the Chargers improve to 5-6.

How it Happened
  • New Haven got out of the gate quickly, plating four runs on two hits in the top of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Molloy got one run back in the bottom of the second inning when freshman Joe Burriesci drove a single up the middle to score senior Matt Yip to bring the Lions within three, 4-1.
  • The Chargers added four more runs in the top of the third inning. Two runs scored via a pair of RBI singles and runs came in following a sacrifice fly and wild pitch to extend the lead to 8-1.
  • The Lions used a seven-run fourth inning to come all the way back to even the contest at eight. Junior Patrick Sanchez drilled a two-run homer over the right center field fence, freshman Charlie Imhof and senior Aidan Larkin drew RBI walks, Yip brought home a run following a hit by pitch, and Imhof scored off a wild pitch to complete the scoring.
  • New Haven regained its lead in the top of the fifth inning rallying to five runs on two hits to pull in front, 13-8.
  • The cardinal and white answered with a run in the bottom of the frame off a throwing error to come within four, 13-9.
  • The Chargers would tack on insurance run in the sixth and eighth and hold the Lions scoreless for the remainder of the contest and close out the victory, 15-9.
Top Performances
  • Yip, Burriesci, and senior Anthony Manisero totaled two hits and one RBI each.
  • Sanchez collected his first home run as a Lion and drove in two runs.
  • Imhof and Larkin added an RBI apiece.

Molloy wraps up its weekend in Boca Raton, Florida tomorrow March 12 as they play Southern Connecticut State at Lynn University. First-pitch against the Owls is set for 11:00 a.m.
