Melbourne, Fla. - The softball team fell to #19 Nova Southeastern, 4-2, and Franklin Pierce University, 2-0, this afternoon in the second day at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games.
Game One: #19 Nova Southeastern 4, Molloy 2
How it Happened
- The Sharks led 2-0 after the first inning on a double down the left field line from Alexis Smith and a single up the middle from Aubrey Hutzl.
- Smith drove in her second run of the afternoon with a fielder's choice in the second inning to make it 3-0. Hutzl drove in her second of the day in the third inning with a double to make it 4-0.
- Back-to-back singles from graduate students Steph Conrade and Alex Burns and a pinch hit walk to freshman Mariah Cepeda loaded the bases in the sixth inning, but the Lions left the bases loaded.
- A fielder's choice paired with singles from Conrade and Burns plated two runs in the seventh inning to cut the deficit in half, but were unable to knot the score.
Top Performances
- Burns went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
- Conrade had two hits with a stolen base while senior Chrissie Huhn, freshman Stevie Dabbadie, and graduate student Emma Bachman each had one hit.
- Dabbadie struck out two in three innings in the loss.
- Junior Natalie Moussa struck out two in three innings of relief, allowing just two hits.
Game Two: Franklin Pierce 2, Molloy 0
How it Happened
- Savannah Arreguin led off with a double before scoring on a wild pitch. A home run over the left field fence from Haley Bigwood gave the Ravens a 2-0 advantage after the first inning.
- The Lions' best chance came in the bottom of the second inning with a walk to Moussa, a hit by pitch to junior Cheralyn Dusharme, and a fielder's choice from Dabbadie put runners on first and third with one out. Molloy was unable to plate a run, however, and FPU maintained the two-run lead.
- The Ravens had runners on second and third in the top of the third, but freshman pitcher Sophia Mariottini struck out Anna Erikson to keep another run off the board.
- Huhn and Dabbadie recorded hits in the final three innings for Molloy, but weren't able to get on the board.
Top Performances
- Huhn led with two hits, going 2-for-3, with Dabbadie picking up a hit in the bottom of the seventh.
- Mariottini pitched a complete game in the loss, matching a career-high five strikeouts.
