No. 13 Baseball Sets Hits Record in Victory Over Southern Connecticut

Boca Raton, Fla. – Lifted by a record setting 25 hits while scoring 25 runs and belting four home runs, the 13th-ranked Molloy baseball team topped the Owls of Southern Connecticut State, 25-6, Sunday afternoon at Lynn University. The Lions improve to 11-2 on the campaign, while the Owls move to 7-5 on the season.

How it Happened
  • The Lions got off to a hot start, scoring six runs in the top of the first to take a 6-0 lead. Senior Anthony Manisero singled up the middle, junior Patrick Sanchez drove a two-run triple into the right center field gap, and the final three runs came in following an error.
  • Southern Connecticut answered quickly in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs off an RBI single and a three-run home run to come within two, 6-4, after one inning of action.
  • The cardinal and white continued to stay aggressive at the plate in the second, a pair of RBI singles from Manisero and junior Nicholas Dagnello extended the Lions' lead, 8-4.
  • Molloy continued to see the ball well at the plate in the third inning. Freshman Charlie Imhof blasted an opposite field three-run home run to open a seven-run lead, 11-4.
  • The Lions broke the game open in the fourth, rallying to a 10-run inning on the back of three home runs and a pair of two-RBI singles. Redshirt junior Matthew Gonchar started the scoring with a two-RBI single, Imhof hit his second three-run homer of the game, Manisero belted a three-run home run over the left field fence and knocked in two more runs with a two-run single, and Dagnello launched his first home run as a Lion with a two-run shot to give the Lions a 21-4 lead.
  • The cardinal and white would go on to score two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and go on to win the contest, 25-6.
Top Performances
  • Imhof blasted his first two career home runs, drove in six runs, and collected four hits.
  • Manisero also tallied four hits, including his first home run of the season and six RBIs.
  • Sanchez knocked in three runs, scored three times, and added three hits.
  • Dagnello collected his first home run of the year while driving in three runs and scoring three runs.
  • Gonchar totaled three RBIs, three runs, and two hits.
  • Junior JJ DeVito added three hits and drove in two runs.
  • Senior Aidan Larkin went four-for-four at the plate and scored three runs.
  • On the mound, junior JC Kiss pitched six innings allowing four runs, none earned, on seven hits to improve to 3-0 on the season.
