Muller Nets Career-High 28 Points In Women’s Basketball Contest At Staten Island

Staten Island, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island, 78-71, Wednesday evening inside Sports and Recreation Center. The Lions move to 10-16 overall and 4-11 in East Coast Conference play, while the Dolphins improve to 10-15 overall and 7-8 in league play.

How it Happened
  • The opening quarter was a seesaw back and forth game, with the teams being tied at eight with 3:33 to go in the stanza.
  • A mini 6-0 run over the next two minutes by the Dolphins pushed them ahead, 14-8, and they would take a 14-10 lead into the second quarter.
  • The home team continued to build its lead, opening a 10-point advantage, 24-14, midway through the second stanza.
  • Six of the next eight points of the contest game from the Lions, all in the paint to shrink the deficit to six, 26-20, with 4:10 to go in the first half.
  • The Dolphins outscored the Lions 10-4 for the remainder of the half to take a 36-24 advantage into halftime.
  • Staten Island opened its largest lead of the contest 1:41 into the third quarter, increasing its lead to 16, 40-24.
  • Juniors Samantha Muller and Janel Moore would find their stride in the third stanza, as they would combine to score the next 13 points for the Lions to cut the deficit to 10, 47-37, halfway through the third.
  • The cardinal and white would go basket for basket with Staten Island for the remainder of the third, but a layup from sophomore Casey Campo cut the deficit to single digits, 58-50, heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The Lions began the final stanza on an 8-2 run to bring them within one possession, 60-58, with under seven minutes remaining.
  • Over the next 1:30, the Dolphins answered with a 6-0 run to regain its momentum, 66-58.
  • Molloy would come within five, 67-62, following a pair of free throws from Muller with 3:29 left on the scoreboard.
  • After back and forth play, a mini 4-0 run from the Lions would bring them within four, 72-68, with 1:19 to go, but that was as close as they would come as the Dolphins would hold onto the victory, 78-71.
