Staten Island, N.Y. - In the penultimate contest of the 2023-24 season, the men's basketball team was defeated by the College of Staten Island, 83-75. Molloy falls to 7-19 on the season while CSI improves to 18-9 (12-3 ECC).
How it Happened
- An early 11-point run gave the Dolphins a 13-4 advantage after seven minutes of play.
- Molloy would come within six three times before a six-point run that included two layups from graduate student Jalen Rosemond and one from freshman Rob Matos cut the deficit to just four points, 32-28, headed into the final two minutes of the half.
- CSI took a 35-30 advantage into the locker room at the break.
- Matos started the second half with back-to-back treys to put Molloy in front, 36-35.
- The guard would ultimately net the Lions' first 11 points of the second half, but the Dolphins quickly regained a double digit advantage just five minutes in.
- Back-to-back shots from long distance from freshman Bryce Merchant and graduate student Bobby Connors would bring Molloy within four, 52-48, but CSI would hold on for the victory.
Top Performances
- Matos led the Lions with 21 points and six assists.
- Merchant netted 15 points while junior Mick Browne had 12 and Connors added 10 while pulling down nine rebounds.
- Rosemond had a career-high four blocks.
