Women’s Basketball Defeated at STAC

Sparkill, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 63-50, Wednesday evening inside Aquinas Hall. The Lions move to 10-14 overall and 4-9 in East Coast Conference play, while the Spartans improve to 16-10 overall and 10-4 in league play.

How it Happened
  • After St. Thomas Aquinas drained three of its first four shots, junior Danielle Hippner scored four of the next six points for the Lions, to knot the contest at six with 5:59 to go in the opening stanza.
  • Molloy would continue its momentum with an 8-2 run over the three minutes of action with baskets from graduate student Isabel Sanchez, senior Trinity Hudson, and juniors Samantha Mulller and Janel Moore to take six-point lead, 14-8, and would take a 18-14 lead into the second quarter.
  • The home team entered the second stanza with a 12-1 while holding the Lions without a field goal run to retake the lead, 26-19, with under two minutes left in the first half.
  • Hippner snapped the run with a jumper to bring Molloy within five, 26-21, and Muller netted a layup to conclude the half with the Lions behind, 29-23.
  • The cardinal and white came within one possession, 29-27, following baskets from Hudson and Muller 1:18 into the third quarter.
  • The Spartans answered with a mini 5-0 run to increase its lead to seven, 34-27, with over six minutes to go in the third stanza.
  • The two teams would trade baskets over the next four minutes of actions, but Muller would hit a jumper to cut the deficit to five, 38-33.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas ended the stanza on a 8-2 run, including five points in the final 22 seconds of the quarter to take a 46-35 lead into the fourth.
  • The Lions would come within nine, 46-37, following a pair of free throws from Hudson, but that is as close as they would come as the Spartans would lead by as much as 18 and go on to win, 63-50.
