Rochester, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan, 75-58, Sunday afternoon inside Voller Athletic Center. The Lions move to 10-13 overall and 4-8 in East Coast Conference play, while the Redhawks improve to 6-14 overall and 2-10 in league play.
How it Happened
- After Molloy jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 1:17, the teams would trade baskets through the midway mark of the opening stanza leaving the contest tied at 10.
- A pair of three-point baskets propelled Roberts Wesleyan in front, 16-12, at the end of the first quarter.
- Sophomore Casey Campo netted two layups to bring the Lions within two, 18-16, a minute into the second quarter.
- A mini 5-0 rally from the home team over the next three minutes of action increased its lead to seven, 23-16, with six minutes to go in the first half.
- The Lions responded with a 6-0 rally of its own with baskets from senior Trinity Hudson, junior Janel Moore, and sophomore Colleen McCullagh to cut the deficit to one, 23-22, with 4:27 remaining in the second stanza.
- The runs continued in the quarter as Roberts Wesleyan put together a 10-0 run over the next two minutes of action, shooting four-of-four from the field and two-of-two from three-point range to take a 33-22 lead.
- Molloy trailed, 37-28, at halftime.
- Hudson and graduate student Isabel Sanchez netted the first two baskets for the Lions in the third quarter, but the road team trailed, 44-32, with 7:46 left in the third stanza.
- A 6-0 run from the home team put them ahead, 50-32, with 4:37 to play in the quarter and they would hold a 59-39 lead heading into the final stanza.
- In the fourth quarter, the Lions would come as close as 15 midway through, but Roberts Wesleyan would go on and complete the victory, 75-58.
Top Performances
- Junior Danielle Hippner led the team with 12 points and six blocks.
- Junior Samantha Muller added 11 points and five rebounds.
- Hudson collected her 14th double-double on the campaign tallying 10 points and 11 rebounds.
