Manchester, N.H. – It would take nearly 70 minutes to determine, but a man-up goal from senior
Mikey Rodin with 26 seconds remaining in a second overtime period provided the men's lacrosse team with its first victory of the 2024 campaign, topping Southern New Hampshire University, 11-10. Molloy sits at an even 1-1 after two weeks while SNHU falls to 0-1.
How it Happened
- The first goal of the afternoon came from the stick of sophomore Justin Palulis, finishing a pass from senior Chris Delaney.
- The Penmen would net the next seven-straight goals and would lead 7-1 until midway through the second quarter.
- Delaney and sophomore Konrad Maciejny would find the back of the net within one minute of one another to cut the deficit to five with six minutes left in the half.
- SNHU scored one final marker in the final second before the break, setting the score at 8-3.
- The Lions took advantage of an extra-man opportunity at the 8:55 mark of the third quarter as Delaney netted his second of the contest. Palulis would score his second of the afternoon just over one minute later to bring Molloy back within three, 8-5.
- The visitors dominated the fourth frame, with Delaney completing the hat trick before freshman Michael McClain scoring his first career goal to take Molloy within one, 8-7.
- SNHU would respond with two-straight goals to regain a three-goal advantage.
- Molloy responded on another EMO with 3:11 left in regulation as sophomore Tommy Corcoron netted his first goal as a Lion to come within two.
- Palulis also recorded a hat trick, scoring with 1:43 left to play to bring Molloy within one.
- Delaney found the back of the net with just 50 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime.
- The Lions forced goalie Ronan DePaul to make two saves in overtime, but were unable to push one past him.
- SNHU took an offside penalty with 40 seconds remaining in the second overtime, opening the door for a man-up goal from Rodin for the victory.
Top Performances
- Delaney led the contest with six points, scoring four goals while adding two assists.
- Palulis (three goals) and Corcoron (one goal, two assists) both tallied three points.
- Juniors Noah Taylor and Patrick Dempsey each dished out two assists while redshirt freshman added one.
- Maciejny, McClain, and Rodin each scored in the effort.
- Sophomore Brandon Pazienza picked up five ground balls and won seven face-offs.
- Taylor added three ground balls with Green, sophomores Josh Sutherland, Shawn McCabe, and Thomas Kofod each picked up two.
- McCabe led with three caused turnovers while Kofod and freshman Rocco Hogan each forced two.
- Junior Christian Michaels made 11 saves in net and picked up a ground ball.
