Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The women's basketball team defeated the Chargers of Dominican University, 66-60, this evening in the final non-conference contest of the regular season. Molloy improved to 10-12 on the season while Dominican fell to 9-13 in the loss.
How it Happened
- The Lions went to work quickly, starting the contest on a 9-0 run with a three-pointer from junior Janel Moore and layups from graduate student Isabel Sanchez, junior Samantha Muller, and sophomore Casey Campo.
- Dominican would come within five, but Molloy ended the quarter with back-to-back field goals from Sanchez and Moore and took a 22-10 lead into the second frame.
- Defense was the name of the game in the second quarter, with the cardinal and white holding the Chargers to just nine points. Ahead 26-17 with five minutes left in the half, Molloy went on an 8-2 run to go in front by 15, 34-19, at the break.
- A strong second half from the visitors, including a 15-5 start to the fourth quarter, made it a contest. Domincian trailed by just four points, 57-53, with 3:30 left to play.
- A three-point play from Moore put Molloy ahead by two possessions with just over two minutes on the clock.
- A field goal from sophomore Sophia Yearwood and four final points from Moore sealed the contest in favor of the Lions.
Top Performances
- Muller topped the team with 17 points while adding seven rebounds, two seals, and one block.
- Sanchez netted 16 points to go with five rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
- Moore had 14 points and led with four steals and four assists.
- Junior Danielle Hippner pulled down eight rebounds and recorded a block.
- Molloy's top scorers were rounded out by seven points from Yearwood and six from Campo.
- Sophomore Rosa Rizzitelli matched Moore and Sanchez with four helpers.
